Cascadia Regatta August 14-15
Submitted by Peter Edwards on Mon, 08/30/2010 - 8:11pmOn August 14-15, Catherine led a group of Station L scullers up to Canada for the first Cascadia masters regatta. The 12 members entered a ton of events [26] and produced a bunch of great performances. Most of the events required heats to advance to a 5 boat final.
Station L members Kevin Erickson and Brad Carr travelled all the way to Canada to race each other in the adaptive 1x. While this might seem silly, since they can race each other each week in practice, it still proved to be their best work thus far over a 1000 meter course. They raced on Saturday and on Sunday. Each of them beat their Saturday time by 7-10 seconds in the Sunday race. It also proved that aside from National Team member Ron Harvey, who they raced at regionals, there's really nobody else in the west moving an adaptive single as fast as these two guys right now.

Wow, what a weekend. We entered 30 events and made finals in 13 of the 18 events that had heats. With the other 12 finals, we had 43 races total over the 3 days. Great job by the coaches, coxes and rowers. What a smooth operation. And the largest medal haul [15] at Regionals in many many years. 30 different members won at least one medal. One member won five.
The sculling results by men, women and mixed boats were impressive, as were the strong 2nd places by the mens and women's 8+'s In each of the 8+'s, Station L placed behind only the Pocock Rowing Center of Seattle.
